Finishing the Last Elements of Boosting Your Website’s SEO

Last week, we took a deeper dive into the first three aspects of my best engaging post on LinkedIn:

  1. Use Catchy Headlines

  2. Meta Descriptions Matter

  3. Content is King… But Relevance is Queen

These three are essential to ranking your site and articles higher (which means tons of monetization opportunities), but they are only half the picture.

The thing about SEO is that you cannot just pick and choose what to do and think that Google will rank your article and website higher. You need to feed the master everything it wants.

This week we will finish our deep dive into my most popular LinkedIn post that week and hopefully better answer any questions you have about improving your SEO.

Key Takeaways

  • Make your site mobile-optimized and fast

  • Focus on user experience

  • Keep up with Google's updates

  • Promote, promote, promote!

The Final Elements To Up Your SEO Game

Here we go. The last four elements you can use the get your site and articles ranking higher. We’re not saying doing these things will get your site to number one. That has much to do with the content itself and if people find it useful (EEAT, remember?)

But when you implement the elements we discussed here, you can give your site the best shot possible. At the very least, your site will rank higher than those not considering these ideas.

Mobile Optimization and Fast Site Speed Are Non-negotiable

OK, this one should be a no-brainer. All you have to do is look at how much you are on your phone. A lot, right? Now multiply that by about a billion people.

Optimizing your site for mobile phones and tablets and ensuring that your site is fast is critical to enhancing user experience and improving your SEO.

  1. More and more users are accessing the internet on their mobile devices. In fact, mobile internet usage has surpassed desktop usage in recent years. If your site is not optimized for mobile devices, users will have a difficult time navigating your site and may leave in frustration. This can lead to high bounce rates, hurting your site's ranking in search results.

  2. Providing a positive user experience is CRITICAL to SEO (EEAT!). Users expect sites to load quickly, and if your site takes too long to load, they will likely leave and look for another site that provides a better experience. This can also lead to high bounce rates.

  3. Search engines prioritize sites that provide a positive user experience, and a fast-loading site is a key factor in providing that. Optimizing your site's speed can improve your site's ranking in search results and attract more organic traffic to your site. Use Google Page Speed Insights to get help.

  4. Finally, a fast-loading, mobile-optimized site can also help improve your site's credibility and enhance your brand image. TRUST, TRUST, TRUST! Users are more likely to trust sites that provide a positive user experience. A fast-loading, mobile-optimized site can help establish your site as a credible and authoritative source of information in your industry (EEAT!).

All these little things add up to you being a trusted and authoritative site that Google will send traffic to. I know it seems like a lot of work, but SEO is a long game. And once it starts clicking for you, then you have options, and you can become a true SEOpreneur!

Focus on User Experience

I cannot stress user experience enough. You need to make your articles and site as helpful to people as possible. While you also need to incorporate keywords, Google wants to see that your site is giving real humans what they are searching for and making it easy for them to find those answers.

Google's ranking algorithm considers various factors that contribute to a positive user experience, such as site speed, mobile optimization, and ease of navigation.

Ensure your website has the 7 factors influencing user experience, as seen in the graphic above.

Here's why you need to focus on user experience:

  1. Reduce your site's bounce rate: Users who have a positive experience on your site are likelier to stay and engage with your content. A high bounce rate, on the other hand, can hurt your site's ranking in search results and indicate to search engines that your site does not provide a positive user experience.

  2. Improve your site's ranking in search results: Google's EEAT (Expertise, Authoritativeness, and Trustworthiness) guidelines prioritize sites that provide a positive user experience and are considered credible and authoritative industry information sources. By focusing on user experience, you can improve your site's ranking in search results and attract more organic traffic to your site.

  3. Enhance your brand image and reputation: Users who have a positive experience on your site are likelier to trust your brand and recommend your site to others. This can help improve your site's credibility and establish your brand as a thought leader in your industry.

  4. Drive conversions and sales: When users have a positive experience on your site, they are more likely to take action, such as purchasing or signing up for a newsletter. By providing a positive user experience, you can improve the user experience on your site and drive more conversions and sales.

If people like your site, Google will send more people. This should be your goal.

Keep Up With Google's Updates

Google's algorithm constantly changes, and keeping up with the latest updates (or at least trying to FFS!) is essential to ensure your SEO strategy remains effective.

Google rolls out updates to its algorithm several times a year, which can significantly impact your site's ranking in search results. For example, the Google BERT update introduced in 2019 aimed to better understand natural language queries and the context in which they are used. This significantly impacted how search results were displayed, and sites that failed to adapt their content accordingly saw a decline in their ranking in search results.

Recently, they released an update on AI written content and how they would allow it if you provide customers with what they are searching for (EEAT, again).

Keeping up with Google's updates is essential to ensuring your site remains relevant and visible in search results. By staying informed about the latest updates, you can adapt your SEO strategy accordingly and stay ahead of the competition.

Furthermore, it can help you identify and correct any site issues that may hurt your ranking in search results. For example, if Google rolls out an update that prioritizes mobile optimization, you can identify any issues with your site's mobile optimization and make the necessary changes to improve your site's ranking in search results.

Finally, keeping up with Google's updates can also help you stay ahead of the curve and anticipate future trends in SEO. By understanding how Google's algorithm is evolving, you can adapt your SEO strategy accordingly and stay ahead of the competition.

Buckle up for a wild SEO ride in the next few years. With ChatGPT, BARD, and the multitude of AI writing tools that are already out and sure to come out, Google will have its work cut out for it to ensure we’re all not reading and repurposing AI information repeatedly.

Promote, Promote, Promote!

Don't just sit back and expect a wave of users to come flooding in like a pre-fistfight Black Friday Sale at Macy's.

It won’t happen. There are too many websites out there for you to just start one up and cross your fingers and toes people will fall face-first onto it.

Promotion is a critical aspect of any SEO strategy. Without promotion, your content may not reach your target audience, and your site may not attract the organic traffic it needs to grow your business. Here's why you need to promote your site and content:

  1. Promotion can help increase your site's visibility and attract more organic traffic. By promoting your site and content through social media, email newsletters, and other channels, you can increase the reach of your content and attract more users to your site.

  2. Promotion can also help establish your site as a credible and authoritative source of information in your industry. By promoting high-quality, relevant content, you can build trust and credibility with your target audience and position your site as a go-to resource for information in your industry.

  3. Promotion can also help drive conversions and sales. By promoting your products or services through targeted advertising and other channels, you can reach potential customers and encourage them to take action, such as purchasing or signing up for a newsletter.

  4. Promotion can also help you stay ahead of the competition. Promoting your site and content through various channels allows you to reach a wider audience than your competitors and establish your brand as a thought leader in your industry.

I know it seems like a lot of work (it is!), but no one said SEO would be easy.

There’s a reason people and companies pay people like me to do their SEO for them. But with a little effort and knowledge, you can get the hang of it and get your posts and articles ranking higher on Google with a little luck.

Remember, don’t expect quick miracles. Everyone I talk to in the SEO world says the same thing, “Yeah, everything looks good… Now you just have to wait for Google to give you some traffic.”

Unfortunately, we are all at the mercy of search engines and their algorithms. No one knows the exact formula for ranking number one — all we can do is guess and copy the people there.

But only those who prepare succeed. So get cracking on getting your articles as optimized as possible, use all the tips in these newsletters, be proactive, and people will come to your site.

We hope you found this newsletter helpful and that you now feel more confident in improving the SEO for your website.
